Chief Finance & Operations Officer
Salary in the region of £75,000

The Good Shepherd Catholic Trust is a fast growing Catholic Multi-Academy Trust. Our vision is to manage continual school improvement by growing the existing MAT (currently consisting of one secondary and one primary school) to form a CMAT with three secondary and eleven primary schools within the boroughs of Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham. Our 2-year objective is to achieve this expansion of the organisation in two phases: to one secondary and six primaries on 1 September 2019; then to three secondaries and eleven primaries on 1 September 2020. We aim to develop a strategic collaboration to improve and maintain high educational standards across all schools within our trust.

To help achieve this exciting and challenging vision, the Trust seeks a Chief Finance & Operations Officer (CFOO) who will support the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) in addressing the structural, operational and financial challenges of this crucial stage in the CMAT’s development.

The CFOO will:
• Be a key member of the executive team and report to the CAO
• Be responsible for the financial sustainability and development of the CMAT
• Provide high-quality leadership and management of the Trust’s finance and business functions to enable the Trust to run efficiently and effectively
• Lead the promotion and delivery of good financial management so that public money is safeguarded and used appropriately, efficiently and effectively
• Will line manage the finance and HR central services team

Key responsibilities include:
• Advising the CAO and board on all matters relating to financial strategy and the impact of their decisions on the financial position of the Trust
• Leading and directing a finance function that is resourced to be fit for purpose
• Working with the CAO and Headteachers’ Leadership Group to maintain a strategic financial plan including a 5-year budget for the organisation
• Working with the schools’ business managers to maintain an overview of the management of all financial issues within each of the Trust’s schools
• Monitoring the financial performance of the schools and reporting outcomes to the CAO and the board’s finance and audit committee
• Reviewing trust policies, processes and procedures to ensure compliance with external regulations
• Liaising with external regulators such as the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), Department for Education (DfE), Charity Commission, Companies House, external auditors and internal auditors as required
• Researching, leading and advising the CAO and headteachers on additional funding, revenue/income opportunities and additional business opportunities
• Preparing appropriate bids or tender documents to acquire identified additional funds or grants

The ideal candidate will have appropriate skills and knowledge along with a commitment to the values and ethos of the The Good Shepherd Catholic MAT.
